What is NDIS?
NDIS is the whole new way to help people with a disability under the age of 65 to receive all the necessary care and support that ensure their health and wellbeing.
NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) was introduced in 2013 under the aegis of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). For those who have a permanent and significant disability, government funding is made available.
The focus of NDIS remains on the individual with the disability. It offers the choice and control regarding the use of funding available under the NDIS. The participant decides the where and how regarding the use of funding. Support is available across domains like allied health, accommodation, independence, outdoor and community activities, sports and more.

In NDIS, the funding is provided directly to the individual, who thereby allocated the spending on the services required. These services can be availed from the provider of their own choice.
The participant gets a plan based on specific individual needs and progress goals.

Eligibility for NDIS
At Towers Care, we work alongside you with all the guidance needed through the NDIS process. However, the first step is to learn about the NDIS eligibility.
Your eligibility is decided based on several factors. You can receive the NDIS support plan if you are:
- Under 65 years of age
- An Australian citizen or a permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen under a Protected Special Category Visa Holder
- Having a disability that is permanent and /or significant in nature. It should impact your everyday life and should require assistive technology or help from others to do things.

NDIS will pay for different service requirements for different people to gain more independence in everyday living. It may include

Yes, there are supports that NDIS does not pay for; it does not cover things that do not assist with your disability. For example, food, electricity or supports that are already funded by other organisations.
You can do it in three ways – you can do it on your own, ask Towers Care for assistance or request the NDIA for help. You can plan to use a combination of these three as well.
